This month alone we have received 10-15 calls and email requests for custom made Halloween costumes. While we are always super excited to take on any custom projects, we need a 4-6 month lead time for custom work.
Why, you ask?
Because it Takes. That. Long. A custom project generally starts from scratch. This involves working with the client to understand their vision perfectly, drafting a brand new custom pattern or altering an existing pattern, ordering fabric, cutting and sewing of course, multiple fittings, and finishing touches. While it may seem straightforward to the uninitiated, a custom project requires time, patience, diligence and expertise that excludes taking shortcuts.
Our studio is not just a teaching studio- we also do alterations, private lessons, machine maintenance & repair, and custom sewing orders such as memory bears, simple window treatments, and quilts. In addition, there is a lot that goes on in the background — staff meetings, class planning, sample prep, working with customers in person, on the phone or via email and text—that takes a tremendous amount of time.
If you have a special custom project that you are dying to have made, come see us! We are always honored and excited to take on new, challenging and special projects. But please understand that you should plan ahead. :)
