STUDIO GUIDELINES

Safety Is OUR TOP PRIORITY

New Students: If you are new to San Antonio or new to the art of sewing, WELCOME from Abby's Attic Sewing & Crafting Studio! If you just moved into the area and have taken sewing lessons in the past and already know how to sew, read a pattern, thread a machine, and are between the ages of nine to adult, it is best to call or email the director, Jennifer Nicolella, and speak with her personally to see what class is best for you.

If you are brand new to sewing and are eight years old and up, it is recommended to take a Sewing 101 lesson or enroll in half day (age 8+ ) or full day (age 10+) summer camp.

Behavior Expectations: Due to the nature of the Studio and the work we do therein, we have many items that can be dangerous if not handled properly, or if students behave irresponsibly. Items include but are not limited to: scissors, seam rippers, rotary cutters, sewing machines with moving parts and sharp needles, pins, sewing needles, rulers with sharp corners, hot glue guns, and so on.

It is our policy at Abby's Attic Sewing & Crafting Studio that students behave in a way that demonstrates self control, responsibility, respect, and age-appropriate maturity. Horseplay, dangerous behavior, using materials in an irresponsible manner etc., is ABSOLUTELY not allowed and any student conducting him or herself in a manner deemed dangerous will be held accountable by the following schedule:

FIRST WARNING : Student will be reminded of appropriate behavior while in the studio.

SECOND WARNING: Student will be asked to stop working on their project and will sit aside to wait for his or her parent to immediately pick him/her up. Student will be allowed to return to the same themed class on a different date to complete the project without paying extra. If, after the second warning, the student exhibits dangerous or disrespectful behavior, they will be asked to leave again and no refunds nor makeup classes will be given.

Abby's Attic Sewing & Crafting Studio shall not be held at fault for any accident that may occur to any student while attending classes. Please understand that, due to the nature of the work being done in the Studio, there are inherently dangerous items therein (scissors, needles, pins, seam rippers, sewing machines with moving parts, rotary cutters, sharp corners, etc.). Please also know that the sewing instructors will do their very best to prevent accidents from happening. Abby's Attic Sewing & Crafting Studio, nor its owner, Jennifer Nicolella, nor any of its employees, representatives or agents, will be liable for injury or damages of any sort.

Hair: Students must have long hair pulled back away from the face while creating, sewing or embroidering.

Shoes: Students must wear comfortable covered shoes. Open toed shoes are not allowed. Students should be dressed comfortably and ready to sew. Shoes must be comfortable and light for touching the foot pedal of the sewing machine. Thick soles, heavy boots, and clogs are not recommended. A student wearing open toed shoes will not be allowed to participate until they are attired in the recommended footwear.

Food & Beverages A large amount of time is spent working on projects in the studio. With this in mind, food, drink, and gum are not permitted at the same tables as the sewing machines. Eating and drinking will take place at designated tables inside the studio.
Registration and Policies & Procedures
Registration options:
Online: You may register securely online with a credit card or Paypal to reserve your spot. Online registration guarantees you a spot in a class or camp.

In person: You are invited to register in person during any studio business hours. It is recommended that you call ahead regarding our hours of operation as our schedule varies. Registering ahead of time in person guarantees you a spot in a class or camp. You may also register the same day as a class or camp but spots might not be available.

Class sizes are very limited (usually fewer than 10 students per class) and fill up very quickly. For these reasons, you may wish to register as soon as you know your schedule. Once registration is received, a place will be reserved for you. By holding your spot, others may be prevented from joining a class so please notify the studio immediately if you need to change or drop a class.

Pick up and Drop off times (For “Kids Only” Classes): Parents, please be considerate and do not bring your child more than 10 minutes or pick her/him up late. Our studio hours do not allow us for extra time between classes. We teach many classes back-to-back and we do not have a waiting room.

Additionally, siblings or friends of children attending a class will not be allowed in the studio during class time. We LOVE children and are privileged to be able to teach them, but we are not a daycare, and we say that respectfully.

We understand that unavoidable things can happen. If your schedule does not allow you to pick up or drop off your child in a timely fashion, you may call the studio or email us in advance to make arrangements.

Parents who drop off their children more than ten minutes early and/or pick up their children more than five minutes late (without prior notice and arrangements with the studio) will be charged a $1 per minute childcare fee.

Communication & Information

Abby's Attic Sewing & Crafting Studio will send e-mails and regular Facebook and website updates throughout the year to keep you informed.  Please read them carefully so you will have the needed information regarding upcoming events, contests, fashion shows, new classes, etc. The owner and instructors are available in person or by phone to answer questions, discuss studio events or hold a friendly conversation. If you have any questions throughout the year, feel free to e-mail us or give us a call. Our website calendar is also a valuable resource to find answers to your questions at any time.

To help students progress confidently, we ask that families make every effort to bring their child to class promptly. Punctuality and regular attendance is important in advancing your sewing skills. All students are expected to arrive on time for their class and conduct themselves in an orderly fashion while on the premises.

Refund Policy:
There are NO refunds, deductions, or credits granted for any missed class or camp; however, Abby's Attic Sewing & Crafting Studio offers a generous make-up policy. Make-up classes are available for any class missed due to illness, family vacation, or personal conflict. Make-up classes are preferred to be taken within ONE MONTH of the missed class or prior to the missed class if you know when you will be absent. To schedule a make up class, contact the studio.

Class Payment Options:
Payment for class MUST be paid in full before class starts. Walk-Ins may pay in person but will not be permitted to begin sewing/crafting until payment is made. You may pay by personal check, cash, or PayPal. PayPal payments can be made to abbys.attic@yahoo.com.

If you pay by personal check, please write your child's name on the check. A $30 charge will be incurred for insufficient funds.

Progress  We are always happy to discuss your child's progress or behavior with you. If you are unable to find time before or after class you are welcome to contact us by phone or email.

If your child loses interest in sewing, seems unhappy, or appears to be under or over challenged, please let us know. Sometimes a change of class time, or changing a challenging project can make all the difference.
